This is our major commitment to the development of disability sports in Wales, and it is an event we have sponsored for nearly 10 years.
Following a request received from
Disability Sports Wales in 2008 for financial help due to the withdrawal of
their key sponsor, we stepped in with emergency cash which ensured that this
event, formerly known as the 'Wheelchair Sports Spectacular', could go ahead that
year and every year since. We have also enlisted the help of our partners
Cardiff University along the way.
This support has continued and the
event has thrived with a greater impact than we could have imagined. The number
of disabled people, mostly young children, visiting this event and trying out a
new sport for the first time has increased to more than 500 each year. In
addition to opening up a new world of sport for most of them, some have gone
all the way and have competed for GB at the London and Rio Paralympics.
We are now helping Disability Sports Wales to identify talent for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018 and for GB in the Paralympics in 2020 and 2024?
